Hsi Yu Chi / Journey To The West / Monkey King Literature

The story of Monkey was written hundreds of years ago (in the middle of the sixteenth century) by the Chinese author and satirist Wu Ch'è—g-è—, based on an ancient Chinese legend called "The Monkey King". Its original name was Hsi Yu Chi ("Record of the Journey to the West" in English, "Saiyuki", "Saiyuuki", "Seiyuki" or "Suy Yuw Gey" in Japanese). The full story was HUGE, comparable in size to the bible. There are various English translations of "Hsi Yu Chi", both full length and abridged. Full length versions are usually translated as "Journey to the West", while abridged versions usually have "Monkey" or "Monkey King" in the title. The ones which I am familiar with are listed below.

Revised Edition (2013)

On 21 December 2012, a revised edition of the 4 volumes of "Journey To The West" was published by University of Chicago Press.
On 15 February 2013, they were published in the UK.
On 5 Apri 2013, the Kindle editions were released.

"Super Saiyuki" (Kadokawa Shoten, 1991) [new]

Nagai's version of Wu Cheng-En's Chinese classic Journey to the West (known in Japanese as Saiyuki), which concerns the many and varied exploits of Monkey, `Great Sage, Equal of Heaven'.
