" I am lucky to have worked with Sakai Masaaki when I was living in Japan in 1995. He was in a TV drama called 'Papa Survival' (can't remember which network) and I was in a couple of episodes as a token foreigner splashing about in a pool while his screen family were on holidays in some non-descript foreign country. It was a laugh. Despite all this, Nishida Toshiyuki will always be my favourite.
About working in Japan with Sakai Masaaki, I suppose it would be more accurate to say 'near'...he and his screen family were sitting by thepool that I was splashing in. Unfortunately I was only v. briefly introduced...and there was no opportunity get photos/autographs. It actually took me a while to recognise that it was him...he has changed a lot in 15 years. His face is almost hidden under a shag pile of grey hair, a fringe that comes right down to his eyes. He's quite small. I would've loved to have talked to him but there wasn't time and my Japanese wasn't all that brilliant at the time. All in all, it was pretty exciting and quite unexpected, not to mention a bit odd...'oh wow! it's monkey!'... "
